How widespread is certification or hiring fraud?
There is not a single universal fraud rate for certifications, but the broader hiring fraud signal is significant. Why should employers verify certifications if they already run background checks?
A background check does not always confirm whether a certification is current, valid, suspended, revoked, or expired. What should an employer verify besides whether a certification exists?

What is the difference between a certificate and a certification?
A certificate usually shows that you completed a course, training, or program. A certification typically means you met a defined professional standard through an assessment process and may need to maintain that status over time. In other words, certificates often document completion, while certifications usually attest to competency against an established benchmark.
